What makes ocarina flutes special?
Ocarina music has existed for thousands of years, and its rich history and beautiful flowing sound are what makes ocarina flute special. Originally crafted by many cultures, ocarinas, such as this Alto/Soprano Ocarina Flute, can be traced back to about 12,000 years ago. In cultures of South and Central America, and in Mayan and Aztec civilizations, ocarinas were crafted out of clay in a shape of animals or birds.
According to legends, ocarina got its name from a baker who saw Aztecs performing ocarina music in Rome and decided to craft his own instrument. In today’s world, ocarina flutes have become popular again, thanks to a video game “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” and performances of Japanese ocarina masters across the world.

When you place ocarina flute to your mouth, blow the air through a small opening, so the air can be strong and focused. Keep in mind that lower notes require less air, so to get the most beautiful sound of ocarina music, keep the holes completely covered. Use your thumbs to cover the holes at the back and cover the front air holes with your forefingers and middle fingers, and blow air into the mouthpiece to produce sound.
